We had the opportunity to design a set for a theatrical play and, my group and I chose the execution scene.

(Both photos were taken during the Japanese invasion in Malaya during World War II)

Designing the execution set was pretty easy. Initially, there are two portable stages and we thought of separating them to create a pit in between for the prisoners to fall into. Here’s the actual blueprint.

We didn’t want the set to look mundane so we decided to add a few elements to meet the expected environment that took place in the 40s in Malaya; dirt, dirt and… you guessed it. Dirt.

The production team liked our idea and it only took us less than half an hour to plan out. Thank goodness.
