INTRODUCTION TO PHOTOGRAPHY (WEEK 9 & 10)

Week 10, 04.04.2017

DSLR_SHUTTERSPEED

Note: Camera used throughout this project is Farzana’s Nikon D800.

Shutter speed: The amount of time that the shutter opens for light to pass through.

In groups of 4 (teamed up with Amira, Farzana and Nafiz), we ventured around campus to test out fast and slow shutter speeds.

one
Taken by Nafiz

Aperture: f/22

Shutter speed: 10″

ISO: 356

I like that the background is relatively dark so that it would create a contrast against my clothes and the light.

five
Taken by Nafiz

Aperture: f/22

Shutter speed: 10″

ISO: 159

We experimented on light again. Amira and I were walking up the stairs whilst waving our mobile phone’s flash light in a spiral motion. Our physiques are barely visible as well.

four
Taken by Farzana

Aperture: f/4

Shutter speed: 1/8000

ISO: 6400

This shot was rather nerve-racking to capture because Farzana and I had to climb up the rocky slope by the drainage system.

two
Taken by Chloe (me)

Aperture: f/4

Shutter speed: 1/8000

ISO: 506

This is a shot of Amira popping a balloon that was once filled with water. I like that the background is utterly blur that the main focus is the frozen action of the water balloon exploding.

“This practice was the most enjoyable one compared to the rest. As it was my first time trying out the slow shutter, I now have ideas for future projects relating to it.”
